Removing kitchen wall below a knee wall

We are opening up our galley kitchen and putting an island where our interior wall and stove was before. In looking at the attic I see there is a knee wall that is roughly right above the wall I want to take down. My question is, does this knee wall need the support of the wall from down below or is the load typically just spread along the ceiling joists?

Thank you!

It is possible that the wall directly below your attic "knee wall" is load bearing.
