Removing tile adhesive

we're in the process of remodeling this half bath. There was plastic tile on the walls, which we removed and we are left with this adhesive and can't figure out how to remove it. The walls are plaster. Any ideas as to how to get the adhesive off are much appreciated! Thank you!

Scraping is the only way to remove the adhesive but if it's over sheetrock there is a good chance you'll damage it trying to get the adhesive off. If it is sheetrock it could be quicker and easier to just replace the sheetrock with new.

scrape it. Use a sharp scraper. either sharpen it when needed or use replaceable blades. You will probably also remove some of the finish plaster but that is easily repaired. I don't know if it will work but try running a hair dryer on the adhesive. see if it softens it enough to do some good.
