Huge old sagging acoustic tile ceiling
I need a very inexpensive way of covering old acoustic tile ceiling without going thru the mess of tearing the old ceiling down. The only suggestion I've gotten that seems plausible to me is covering with luan and then trimming it out over the seams. The room is like 50 x 50 give or take. Is this the easiest and cheapest way to cover this horrible ceiling??

Those tiles are stapled up to strapping that is placed 12" on center... and the staples have given up. You could have put a few 5d common nails (or white aluminum trim nails) in them to push them back up... then set the nail slightly and spackle over it.
If there is no wood running directly under the duct tape, that means the strapping runs the other direction. That is the side of the tile that you would nail.
Now if the strapping is coming down, THAT's a problem.
