Replaced paneling with drywall now door jams are short

I replaced the paneling with 1/2" drywall and now there is a 1/4" recess on the door jams. How can I make this work. Do I cut straps of paneling to fill the gap between the casing and the door jam? I do not want to replace all the door jams.

You just need to add a jamb extension. They make a screen moulding that you can get at any box store that is about 3/16" x 3/4" that might work well. You typically don't want to line it up with the exact inside edge of the jamb, it's usually best to step it back 1/8" or 3/16". Then when the casing goes on, it's stepped back another 1/8" or 3/16".

If its more like 5/16" you might want to make your own by ripping some wood on a table saw to the right thickness.
