crack in corner caused by gap in drywall needs fix up
#1

I have an inside corner where the drywall tape and plaster are coming off. I investigated (by pealing some away) and found that there is a 1/4"-3/8" gap running the whole way up the corner that was being covered up by the tape - it seams that the drywall was cut short and this was an easy cover up for the contractor. How do I go about fixing this? How do I fix the wall before I put new tape up and plaster?

2 ways you can fix it.
1. stuff the crack tight with old newspaper cutting any that projects out of the corner. Tape and spackle as normal. The NP will act as a filler and will tighten the corner against shifting that caused the original tape to lift.
2. Same technique but use a styro foam crack filler. It comes in differnt thicknesses and can be purchased at any home improvement center. It is primarily used to fill large cracks before chaulking but can be used in this process as well.
I have done both with excellent results.
Hope this helps.
