I'm looking for any tips on taping drywall. The joints I typicaly end up with are factory taper(new drywall)on one side and full height (old drywall) on the other and not much feathering room. I end up with a monster hump or end up sanding down to the tape. I have tried to mimic the taper on the older drywall but the joint turns out looking like, you know.(it's hard to put in polite words) I have also concidered going with a heavier texture to cover it up. I'd be more likely to try a tip than have to retexture the whole room.

Any info could be helpful.

Take care
David

I've had luck cutting the new rock back beyond the tapered edge, then taping and mudding the seam at least three or four times going up in taping knife size to 10 or more inches to widen out the patch. Go sparingly with each layer of joint compound and of course sand between applications. Hope this helps.

Cool

David,
Go to "Build/Remodel" above and click on "Walls/Ceilings" for illustrated how-to info.
Good Luck!
