cathedral ceilings

When walking into the front door of my home, you are met with an open space that includes part kitchen, dining area, and living room. The large room has a cathedral ceiling, leaving a very large wall with no windows and is not cut down the middle where the ceiling comes to a point at the top. I do not know how to devide this area with 1/2 being the living room and the other half being the dining/kitchen area. Do you have any ideas? I have a clean slate to work with since there are no colors used except a hedious green carpet that will be replaced. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Helpless in Columbia, SC.

Your not "Helpless", some of us are just a little slow.
Now I don't know if you are looking for a physical seperation, or just a visual change of planes. How about building up the area for the dinning room two steps, and erecting a railing around it?
A couple of cosmetic beams perhaps, and effective use of lighting...
Waduhthink?
