Hi all, I am in process of remodeling my parents kitchen. They have a very OLD house with the lathes in the ceiling. There are many cracks and it would probably be best to rip it all down and just put new drywall up...BUT....I sure don't want to go through that big messy ordeal!!! I have seen they make panels?? To put up on the ceiling ...much like wall paneling??? I would really appreciate any ideas as to what I could put on the ceiling in a cheap way and easy way and something that will look decent.
I would rather just put up some 8x10 sheets of something, but what will work and look good??? I also think they make metal tiles..but read u have to put up plywood then attach them.
Is there anykind of tiles that you can just glue up or staple up there and it will look good.
I would appreciate any help, I just want the ceiling to look good, without having to spend a month doing it.

Rip it out. You will be glad you did. A kitchen ceiling isn't that big of a deal. A nice new drywall ceiling will look the best. Also when the ceiling is down you can put new light fixtures, redo any electrical or plumbing and check for any rot or repair needed to joists.
