Question Remove wall texture

We are trying to remove and skim coat over texurized walls in a large home. We have tried many methods: building up test spots (end point build up is too thick); tried belt sander to smooth before skim coating (works great but creates a lot of dust); various other sanding methods (much too time consuming). Are there any other methods you can recommend? Can you recommend skim coating techniques?

Also, should we be thinning the mud? Thanks in advance.

What kind of texture is on the walls?

I think skimming is the only way to go. Use a 12" knife, some lightweight mud. You don't need to thin it out but if go ahead if it works better for you. Put the mud on the wall thick enough to almost cover your texture on the first coat. Second coat should fill in the rest. Third coat will make it smooth. This is a long and tireing process. 3 coats for sure.
