screws for corner bead

I am doing an outside corner with a strip of metal corner bead (straight aluminum with holes) and attempted to use the drywall screws on this and it appears that these are not suited for this purpose as the screw head would not sit below the surface to hide with tape. Are there special screws or nails for corner bead?

Actually, there is a special crimping tool for this job. Costs about $50 at HD or Menards. It is very wonderful to have.

Drywall nails will work if you in a pinch, they are designed with a very flat head.

Also, If you are using the Aluminum corner bead, you should not be adding tape to it. Place the joint compound directly over the top of the bead.

Hope this helps.

You can't just crimp the corner bead. It will crack out. Use dyrwall nails or the screws. If you use the screws and you are actually screwwing into a stud then you won't have a problem. They should suck up enough to be covered.
