Skimming plaster walls

I am going to be skim coating the plaster walls in my house. I will be applying a coat of plaster weld to help with bonding. My question is what kind of plaster should I use? I asked for plaster, not joint compound, at the place I bought the plaster weld from me and they asked what kind. I asked what kind should I use and they didn't know. Can anyone help me?

A good plaster is USG diamond finish plaster. Comes in a bag and needs to be mixed in a bucket. Watch out that 5 gal. bucket only lasts about 45 min to an hour.
