Painting Drywall

What is the best intial covering for drywall. Some say a primer, or a sealer. One book I've read says a flat latex paint works better than either for your first coat. Any ideas?

I find a good oil based primer, like Kilz works well with a quality latex paint. The primer is important to level out the taped areas and field areas, patches, etc. I use the Kilz stain blocker to prep after repairing and patching plaster walls.

inside corners showing small amount of tape

Ok My husband and I have drywalled the first part of our huge addition!!!! We have some tape in the corners about 1/8 to 1/16 th of an inch showing, does this need to be covered with more mud so it won't show thru the paint or are we thinking OVERBOARD!!!! Please help us we don't want to do more than we have to so we can get on with this !!!!!! Thanks in advance for your advice! snowymich:) :confused:

i need help. i want to redo my bathroom walls. there is this paneling up on the walls half way up on the bottoms. i want to take it off and paint the walls. here's my problem- there isn't any drywall on the walls behind it. actually i don't no want it is on the walls behind it how do i find out what i can do with it.:confused:
