I have a large hole in the living room ceiling which needs to be filled due to water damage. I found out that the ceiling seems to be a combination of sheetrock and plaster. The two layers have a combined thickness of about 3/4". I can't find any sheetrock at this thickness, so I'm wondering what needs to be done to patch up this hole, which is about 4' X 4'. I'm considering getting a 5/8" thick piece of sheetrock to do the initial patching, but then what? I want the patch to be flush with the rest of the ceiling. I'm afraid that if I add drywall compound to build up the balance of the thickness it might not adhere and fall off? Thanks, Amado

We just got a contract on a house, (our first), and we want to make one main alteration: The top floor has two small bedrooms that we want to convert to one larger bedroom. The rooms are right next to each other, so it involves knocking out one wall. As I see it, these are the things we'll probably need to do: tear out the drywall (easy) deal with the studs deal with the wiring that goes to the outlet that is on both sides of the wall. finish the drywall around the edges where the wall met the other walls and ceiling. deal with the floor where the wall was. The only thing we really know how to do is rip out the drywall. Can anyone point me in the right direction to learn how to do the rest? Thanks
