repairing holes in ceiling
I have a large hole in the living room ceiling which needs to be filled due to water damage.
I found out that the ceiling seems to be a combination of sheetrock and plaster. The two layers have a combined thickness of about 3/4".
I can't find any sheetrock at this thickness, so I'm wondering what needs to be done to patch up this hole, which is about 4' X 4'.
I'm considering getting a 5/8" thick piece of sheetrock to do the initial patching, but then what? I want the patch to be flush with the rest of the ceiling.
I'm afraid that if I add drywall compound to build up the balance of the thickness it might not adhere and fall off?
Thanks,
Amado
