Question Marlite

I have what I think is Marlite over drywall on my bathroom walls including around the tub. It is extremely ugly, and my wife wants it out and a regular tub surround put in. The house is about 43 years old, if that might indicate a certain method of attachment. What is the best way to remove this stuff? Will I end up replacing all the drywall in the bathroom anyway?

Removing Marlite from drywall

The amount of difficulty and resulting damage to drywall will depend upon the way the Marlite panels were installed. When you start prying it off with a pry bar, you will be able to quickly determine the installatio method. If it was nailed, then it will be an easy project to remove it. If it was glued on, then you can expect damage to drywall which will either need repairs or replacement.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping the Marlite is nailed, but I'm betting it was glued. Guess I'll have to learn how to hang drywall and cement board.
