painting popcorn

I'm painting a room that has a popcorn ceiling. There's duct work that runs thru the room and hangs down from the ceiling which has also been textured with that popcorn stuff. I don't really want to spend the time and mess to remove the popcorn from the duct work. I had that done in another room and it was a huge mess. Anyway, what is the best way to paint the duct work? Special roller, big brush, big sponge? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!
