Wall to ceiling

Wall to ceiling
I am redoing a kitchen and bath and looking for help when it comes to add new sheetrock, all the ceilings are textured, what do I have to do to get a seam where the new sheetrock meets the textured ceilings? Do I have to knock back a couple of inches of the ceiling, if so is there a way that I won't have to spray the entire celling?
thanks !

I'd probably try to smooth out the texture just to the thickness of the new wall board (1/2 - 3/4") . Maybe a putty knife or a small hand sander. I think if you are careful, you could avoid re- texturing the whole ceiling.
