removing joint compound from paneling

Is it at all posible to remove joint compound from paneling. Our whole dinning room was paneled and them joint compounded over for texture. Is there any way to take the joint compound off without ruining the paneling, OR will we have to remove the paneling and start over from scratch. THANKS

You will most likely have to remove the paneling.

Many people try to texture over paneling because the paneling is dated. This never works because the paneling expands and contracts which in turn cracks the mud.

You will most likely also have to remove the sheetrock behind it.
