Angry Gas Bradford White, pilot won't stay lit

Sorry for any duplication.
I have a 5 1/2 yr old Bradford White Gas hot water heater. The pilot lights fine, stays lit --> turn gas to on and burner lights. When water reaches temp and burner goes out so does pilot. Replaced thermocoupler, no change. Almost appears as if thermocoupler is getting to hot. Also, burner has fins that are rusting and easily broken off. Both seem to me to be excessive wear to me. I do not believe I have low gas pressure coming in, but could this issue be the gas control valve?

P.S. the new thermocoupler is longer than the original, does this matter?

Gas Bradford White, pilot won't stay lit

Appears that the gas control valve/thermostat have decided to be sensative. I am able to keep the pilot lit and the burner kicking on normally after turning the thermostat down. I am slowly turning it up to see if the pilot will stay lit.

Anyone seen this before?
P.S. Tank is in a closet in the garage and the outside temps in the shade this lovely Oklahoma summer have been over 100 degrees pretty much everyday for 3 or 4 weeks now.

make up air, venting, gas pressure.

if not one of those, less likely bad t-couple or gas valve.
