Help no hot water!!!

Last night my husband installed a new hot water heater, and forgot to seal one joint. a qiuck shake of the tank to make sure it was full and the pipe popped out and sprayed water everywhere. The last joint in now sealed and the water is working fine; however now hot water!!!!!! The wet areas around the wires where cleaned prior to flipping the electricity, but still now hot water. We don't no what to do. Is it possible hat some left over water could have damaged something, and if so what can be done to find out and remedy the situation.
Thank you,
Despretly seeking a hot shower.

This may sound dumb, but,are you sure the breaker didn't trip after the accident. I would think that if you shorted something out,the breaker would trip. Also,is there a breaker on the tank itself?

No, the main breaker didn't trip, and we are unaware of the location of the breaker inside the tank.

Sorry....wrong term. My water heater has a "reset button "under the cover for the access to the heating element. It is described on the outside of the tank along with the installation warnings. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response!!! After further checking we relized there was no power to the two hot wires, traceing the line back to the junction box we discovered that the wires were run through a timer box that had turned off and not reset due to the power having been shut down for the day. All apeares to be working now and hpoefully a hot shower tonight.
Thanks Again
