temperature difference between rooms

I had my gas water heater replaced back in July. The WH is inside the house. It's working well except I noticed that the water temperature in my shower is only warm, not hot. The shower is located on the floor directly above the water heater and there isn't any outside piping to get the water up there. When I run the kitchen faucet which is on the same floor as the WH, it's scalding hot. I haven't checked the temperature difference between the two but it's significant. Any ideas what could be going on here? Thanks

If you run hot water only, is it just warm? I am thinking you may have a shower control with anti-scald guard installed. Most can be adjusted for a higher temp. It could also be that your cold water is leaking over into the hot supply side.

Woo hoo! You're right... it was an anti-scald device. That was probably the first easy thing to fix in my house. Thanks so much for the advice!
