Question Too good to be true?

After a lot of investigating (I'm an ex-city boy who lived in an apartment all his life) I found out that my hot water supply is thanks to an indirect set-up between my stainless steel storage tank and my oil-fired boiler. (I think)
According to the tech. support manager at the company that made the tank, "Generally, that system does not need any maintenance on a regular basis. Leave it alone."
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those homeowners who think they know better than the people who made the equipment simply because they own it. I'd be very happy not to have the annual chore of flushing the tank, but I keep hearing that it should be done.
I can understand that because the tank is SS I shouldn't have any rust problems but what about mineral deposits?

Can someone please educate me?

Dan

Mineral deposits lay, accumulate, and collect regardless of the material. Depending on the grade of stainless and demand will dictate the deterioration.

Thanks for the reply!

What I was mainly wondering was have you ever heard of or dealt with a "no maintenance" system like the tech. said?

If it's just the storage tank you are reffering to then no it don't need regular maintenance. If there's a way to blow off the bottom sedement occasionally it wouldn't hurt to do that though.

As for the boiler you should get it serviced and cleaned every year. Your oil supplier should be able to do this for you.
