timer for hot water heater?
Is there such a thing as a timer for hot water usage. It would be nice to limit our teenagers to 10-15 minute showers. My husband sometimes just shuts the main water valve off for a few minutes and they get pretty upset if full of soap, but it doesn't stop them for long!

I have not heard of one. It would be possible to improvise one with a solenoid valve and timer. It would shut the solenoid valve when the timer told it to. Might be easier to just tell the kids the water is going off in so many minutes and is not coming back on until they leave the bathroom. buy them a cheap timer with a bell. Good luck.

Now that's an idea! You could install a 24 V zone valve in the supply to the shower's hot water. You would need a 24 V transformer to power it. You could then install a 0-15 minute Intermatic Rotary timer switch somewhere not too convenient to the shower. To take a shower you have to rotate the switch around to the 15 minute position. At the end of 15 minutes the hot water shuts off. You have to go and turn the knob again to get more hot-water.
