Gas Water Heater leaking
Greeting,
After heavy rain last night, I went down to check my basement this morning. There is no flood. But I found there is water underneath my gas water heater. I think the heater is leaking. My question is what should I check to narrow down the problem to see wether it needs a simple fix or a replacement?
Thanks in advance!

Check all the joints on and around the tank. Put a finger in the relief valve pipe to see if its wet. Try to look under the tank to see if you can see anything leaking. Check the exhust pipe to see if its wet(maybe water leaked in through there).

Do as previous post mentioned. Sometimes a small inspection mirror and flashlight can help. Examine the tank above the burner area. If the problem was water running down the flue, it should go away shortly when the weather clears. Be sure to carefully look at the fittings and valve too.
Keep a close eye on that heater, small leaks can turn into big floods.
