Gas **** knob - broke

As I was trying to light my pilot light the gas **** knob broke into 3 pieces (plastic of course), any chance of replacing this myself? Is this common? 10 year old Rheem gas hot water heater.

Thanks:

... and in the meantime you're going to be tempted to get by using a tool as a substitute. If so, all I can say is BE CAREFUL. I had something similar happen, and after a few weeks when I least expected it, I had quite the fire. Obviously I had damaged the thing in the process.

Thanks for the advice, we will be taking cold showers until we get repaired.

If you mean the knob you rotate, go to plumbing shop. They may keep old knobs just for times like this. I know I used to have several all the time.
