Reliance/American model 501 questions.

Seems my water heater is kicking off every 2-3 days now for unknown reason. It's been working fine to the point, but have only been in this current home for about a year and a half. I keep having to reset it. Not sure if it's the heating elements causing this (maybe damaged or dirty) or maybe the thermostat causing the issue? At any rate I have had to reset it 3 times now in the last week. It's a Reliance?American duel 4500W elements and I don't know it's age. There is a thermostate on each element and I don't know if they are controlled individually or if the thermostat may have an issue. Can I turn either the top element temp down or up and same or opposite. Any ideas?

Change your thermostats. The reset button is tripping because your tank is overheating.

Wink

Yes you can turn the tstat down. Like said you dont say how old. Lowes and Home Depot both have a whole kit new tstat and elements that you can put in . If you want to go that way. I would.
