How do you reset the ER2 error message

I have an Amtrol Boiler Mate Classic Indirect Fired Water Heater with a Smart Control electronic control unit. After flushing my tank yesterday I bypassed the zone valve to allow the hot water from the furnace into the tank quicker. I forgot to remove the bypass and realized my error when the domestic water was scalding hot.

The Smart Control now has an ER2 message that warns the water in the tank has exceeded 155 degrees. I flushed out some water in the tank to lower the temp but I cannot get the ER2 message to go away. I tripped the breaker, tried pressing and holding an assortment of the keyswitch and up/down buttons but nothing works.

Any thoughts?

You might increase your response rate if you also post this in the hydronic heating / boiler forum.
