Gas Vent Pipe

Gas Furnaces can be vented with PVC pipe, so are there any gas water heaters that can also be vented this way?

Only certain water heaters can be vented with PVC, not all of them. Goldstar said the key words power vent. Only power vented water heaters are able to safely be vented like this. Standard atmospheric vented water heaters can not.

If in doubt, consult the owners manual.

And to take hanks post further, the reason the power vent is able to use pvc is it is introducing cool air from the room into the vent pipe, keeping the gaseous offtake cool enough.
