I have an electric water heater, about 10 years old. I noticed this week that it will intermittently create a small trail of water from under the heater. It is probably only about 3 tbsp of water, and it comes and goes. Where do I start to diagnose this?

First thing to do is find out where the leak is coming from, obviously.... Get down on your hands and knees with a flashlight and look around the unit for the slight discoloration caused by the mineral deposits in the water.
