hot water issues

like many, we have some hot water issues. house had domestic hw off the boiler and we found it was not enough. I installed 40 gal electric heater. i tapped into the hot water line from the boiler, assuming the heater would receive pre heated water. i am finding the water is not as hot as it was from the boiler.. 1) should i turn up temp? 2) disconnect from hw line and tap into cold supply? #) check any wiring?

Thanks

Chuck

I am not a plumber but I don't see why you just can't turn up the temp on the water heater till you get to where you want it. It is suppose to heat water to the desired temp, it sounds like you aint there yet.
