new water heater noisy on combustion cycle

Our new water heater makes a rumbling combustion sound on the heating cycle. Much louder than our old one. We can hear the low rumbling sound from the basement on the first floor of the house and on the second floor as well. We were not aware of any sound from the old one.

Any ideas. The tank was installed about 2 weeks ago. It is a Robert Wood

Gas pressure was checked and its OK.

Ooops. I meant to say it is a John Wood unit, which I think is now owned by GSW.

Offhand, that doesn't sound right. I'd call back you installer to inspect it. Unfortunately, relatively few installers are particularly skilled repairmen.

Just guessing, but this might be an improper air/fuel mixture, probably too lean. Excessive primary air can cause noise problems among other issues.

Thanks for this. I will contact the installer again and pass this along.
