Small leak in the bottom cover of our water heater

We have a Burnham Single Water heater installed in 2001. We noticed a few days ago that there's a small leak at the bottom of the water heater. The water is sipping out of the bottom cover. Do we have to maybe reseal it? If yes, how? If not, what could be the problem? Help and thanks in advance.

cutieme,

Welcome to the forums.

That sounds like a tank leak, and the only fix for that is to replace the WH. It's POSSIBLE that you may have a leak where one of the nipples enters the tank at the top and is running down the side of the tank. Check that first.

If we need a new water heater tank, 40 gallons, oil fired, how much would it cost me to replace it plus installation cost? Also, is electric water heater better than the oil fired one? Thanks again.
