Bradford White "gas" hot water heater

Hi everyone, great forum! I'm asking this question for my brother. He has a gas hot water heater 40 gal (Bradford White) and it has a blower motor hooked into an exhaust above it. The question is, the blower motor requires 3 drops of sae 20 oil every 3 months and he's not sure where to put the 3 drops of oil? Btw we don't have the manuel. Thanks in advance

Storm...it appears that that is a regular vent model WH...at least according to the B-W site. I guess it's possible it was modified by a plumber for some reason. Or perhaps the WH was replaced and the old one was a power vent? Got a serial number from the WH as well?

No Pro..but they'll be around.

Thanks Gunguy for your reply. It's possible it could have been modified. I'm just hoping someone might be familiar with these blower motors and they would know where to put the 3 drops of oil in the blower motor b/c there's no obvious spots where to put them. The model # off the tank is: MI403S6FCX

OK...I'm guessing that's probably Sept 2004 as a date of manufacture.
Determine Water Heater Age

Most motors that require lube have a small cap or plug at the ends of the motor so the oil can be applied to the bearings. Sometimes only at one end.

I'll have to let a Pro answer further...and this isn't like the thing is broken..just for info...so check back later.

Oh...what kind of material is there for the vent? Sheet metal or plastic? And is the fan right on top of the WH or somewhere further up in the duct?

Thanks alot for the info! The vent is made of sheet metal. The motor is not on top of the water heater, it is located above it in the duct.

Sounds like a power venter, which would be an add on to the water heater to allow it to be vented out the side of a building.

You'd need to post the maker and model of the power venter ----
Tjernlund is the most common.

Gas Side Wall Power Venters : Damp Crawl Space Moisture : Chimney Fan : Tjernlund Products, Inc.
