JHRobin2: Pilot & burner shutting down

Same kind of problem with our State Select hot water heater. Model # PR650NBRT, S/N G02338368. Have tried repeatedly lighting the pilot, and I can do that, but after I turn the gas on and set the thermostat and it starts to cycle, it shuts down after about a minute, and when it does, the pilot goes out. There is a clicking sound in the thermostat as it shuts down.

We are renters, so the wife will call the property manager in the morning while I'm at work, but if I could fix it myself easily, I'd do so.

Best to let the landlord take care of any issues you may have.

So what happened? Having simular problem. I believe it is part of the E.C.O signal, which is a safety "fuse" if the water heater gets to hot. Have to replace the water heater or at least the gas control valve assembly.

Is that what the landlord did?
