Gas Hot Water Tank Settings

I am trying to determine what the temp settings are on my HWT dial. See image included. What is each bar adjustment 5 or 10 degrees etc. Thanks for any feedback.

Model of Tank: John Wood GSW Superflue

Is the thick vertical red line after the word temp 120 degrees

Probably reasonably close to that.

I doubt there is any 'calibration' of this dial. The markings are more or less 'relative'. You can't really say that each mark is 5 with any kind of certainty.

I'm moving this to the ' Water Heaters ' forum...

Well i picked up a kitchen cooking thermostat and let the water run for a couple of minutes in a sink closest to the hot water tank and it got up to 138 degrees. Turned it down and will check the new setting tomorrow.

You got 138 with that setting of the dial shown in the pic? Good garsh, that don't sound right. I would not expect that a setting that low would give that hot... that's dangerous actually, especially if there are young children or seniors in the home.

You might consider installing a thermostatic tempering valve at the hot outlet of the water heater. It's code in many locations now-a-days...
