stuck galvanized nipple really stuck on water heater

I have a 2 year-old GE heat pump water heater with one dielectric and one galvanized coupling on it.

The galvanized one is corroded and leaks. I've tried a long pipe wrench and rubber mallet to unscrew that coupling with negative results.

I'm afraid if I hit the wrench any harder, I may break the fitting on the tank that holds the coupling. Is it easy to break the fitting?

Is there some thing I can do to soften up the connection before taking the mallet to it again. I can't imagine any WD-40 creeping down it there, but I'll try anything.

Thank you. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You might try Liquid Wrench for loosening bolts. Let it set for a while tapping the nipple each time you apply it. (Tapping helps work it in.)
