Question Similar Issue

Similar issue as in this link.

I have an AO Smith GPCR 40. I cleaned the Sensor several months ago and it worked fine until now. Usually the hot surface igniter would start up for about 5 seconds and then shut off. This time however, the vent fan starts up & all the lights turn on for about 1 second before it all shuts down with VAC/ Arrow/ B/ C/ on. Error in Hot Surface Igniter Circuit is what the manual tells me.

I've removed the wire mesh and cleaned any remaining debris along with sanding the sensor but not working. If the sensor was slightly bent would it matter? HELP, it's over almost 8yrs old so not under warranty

Moved this to own thread....

Yes good you removed the wire mesh... Does the igniter still glow? And does the unit try 3 times then lock out?

If so I would say the igniter/flame sensor combo. The screens usually destroy them from the years of screen debris sitting on top of the igniter.

You have error code 5. just pulled out the repair manual.

Probably the igniter. Check pins 1 and 2 on the igniter molex plug. Thats the first two on the left. Has black wire to pin 1 and black resister loop on pin 2...

Resistance needs to be with in 11.5 to 18.8 ohms....

If the specs are good then the gas valve is bad.

Let us know.
