Pilot light goes out after warming water

Each year, we have the same issue. When the air conditioner, which is next to the water heater, starts running - the pilot light on the water heater goes out. We can get the pilot light to light and warm the water to Luke-warm, then it turns off.

We have called in a repairman every year for the past six years. They get it to run through the season, then we have the same issue the following spring.

This year, the repairman replaced the thermocouple and whole burner assembly. It worked great until just past his 30 day guarantee. Now we are back to the same issue. We have tried cleaning out under the water heater and adjusting the doors on our HVAC closet to let in more air. It is not working.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like the AC system is putting the room in a vacuum and drawing air back thru the water heater.

Have you tried leaving the door open to the closet to see what happens?
