Exclamation State Industries Water Heater Will Not Light -I Already Cleaned the Flame Sensor

Hi Everyone,

Looking for some help on fixing a water heater that will not light - it will try 3 times and then go to system lockout.

Here are the specs:
Manufacturer: State Industries
Model: PR640XCVIT
Build Date: 8/11/2004, installed December 2004 and out of warranty

I noticed having no hot water yesterday and came here to look for some help. After reading things over about a dirty flame sensor, I pulled out the assembly, cleaned everything up, and reassembled.

During the first startup after I cleaned everything, it took 2 tries before it flamed up. Then it stopped after a few minutes and then was unable to restart.

Now, it doesn't even light. It tries 3 times - I get the glow from the ignitor, but it is unable to start the flame.

Looking for any advice.

Thanks.

Bobby

If the flame comes on for a few second then goes out its probably the flame sensor... Sometimes you need new as there is a resistor on the molex end...

Do you have a multi meter and know how to use it? You can test the igniter....

Additionally it can be other things like a weak fan not pulling in the pressure switch... or a faulty intellivent control...etc...

Thanks for the reply.

Right now, the flame is not coming on at all. It just cycles 3 times and then goes to lockout.

You do not here the gas valve click????

Could be the fan/pressure switch. If that does not close the gas valve will never open because it thinks the fan is not running.

Check the tube coming from the vent to the pressure swith... They break off sometimes...

I definitely hear it click for the gas valve, but it just doesn't flame.

Can you point me towards the pressure switch? I'm a total rookie at this.

Thanks.
