help with hot water please!!!

we live in a mobile home and with this last cold spell we had several pipes freeze and bust. my brother-in-law fixed all the pipes but ever since then we have no hot water at faucets, it all comes out cold. Thought it was the hot water heater elements, so i went to Lowe's and bought new ones, but when we drained the water out of the tank it was all real hot. Could he have switched the pipes where they go in and out of the hot water tank? Would that cause this? There is only cold water coming out of taps but hot water in tank? I am Stuck. Please help!!

Angie, welcome to the forums! It is possible he did make an erroneous connection. Is it possible for you to pull the cover and take a few pictures of the piping around the water heater and where it goes into the tank. That way we can see what you see, and may can offer advice.

Do you get a good stream of water, even it it's cold, from the faucet when turned to the hot position? If so it's very possible that something is plumbed wrong. Take a look at the repairs that were made somehow the hot line got connected to the cold. It also makes you wonder where the hot line is now connected. Check everything. See if hot water is being fed to the toilet.

If you don't get any water from the faucet when turned to the hot position then the hot line may simply not be connected. Again, it makes you wonder where the hot line goes and if the end was capped off or run in a loop missing some fixtures.

we have plenty of pressure and it is all just cold water coming out. My husband followed the water lines and it looks like it is all hooked up properly. is there something in the hot water heater that would allow cold water to come out instead of hot? really don't have money to replace unless absolutely have to? if the hot water line is hooked up to where the cold is suppose to go in and cold water line hooked up to where the hot is suppose to come out would that produce this problem? he replaced parts on both of those under the trailer when he fixed it and may have switched them around accidentally.

If he switched them then the hot would just be coming out of the cold side and vice versa on the hot side.
Is there full flow of water out of both sides or the faucets.
There should have been a shut off on the incoming cold water side of the water heater some place.
Really need to him come back he's the only one that can see what's going on and knows what he did.

Yes it would. And if you did not have this issue before and now you do because the pipes were repaired this would be the most probable cause..
