Not enough hot water in shower

Recently we had our oil furnace serviced and the plumber installed a new mixing valve, said the old one was "not the kind they use anymore". The furnace is about 4 years old, the old mixing valves were the hot/cold dial-type with the temperature gauge marked on it. The new type is a lever, and is all the way open with no real effect as to how much hot water we're getting. Did not have this problem before the change in the valve. The furnace is coil, with a small hot water tank. Thanks for any information about this.

Is this a true furnace...or a boiler? If a boiler...I'll move the thread to the correct area.
