used water heater
Do folks sell used water heaters on craigslist etc? Is that a bad idea?
I have a 3 year old AO Smith 50 gallon gas heater I am thinking of selling, is it worth 300 bucks and my effort? Would offset the cost of what I am intending to do.

Give it a shot - the worst that can happen is no one is interested and you're in the same boat as if you hadn't tried.

Yes, they can - my parents hooked one up that came out of my brother's house once. I think they got six or seven years out of it.

I doubt you'd get that much for it since it's used and no warranty.
40+ yrs ago I bought a used water heater for $10 and was happy with it. If the price is right, I can see someone buying it, I just don't see anyone paying $300 for a used water heater.

Unless handled unusually roughly, moving it won't hurt it.
The big disadvantage of buying a second hand water heater is not knowing how much longer it will last.
Would you accept installment payments over a few years instead of full payment up front? That might be a selling point. (If the heater leaked before all the payments were made then the remaining payments are forgiven.)
