How to lower temp on tank

I need to lower the temperature on my hot water tank.

Can someone tell me if this is in fact the thermostat and how do I lower the temperature? It's in a really tough spot to see. i had to use a snakeeye camera to see there was a dial inside if it..

If this is how I adjust it. Which way to i turn the dial? And how much do i turn it?
or is this not the correct way?

Pictures are not too clear, but usually the control is marked with the range indicated. If nothing can be found, wait until the water heater is not running and then turn the dial in one direction and wait a few minutes. If the heater does not come on, then you have dialed to a cooler temp. Dial back past the starting point and again wait. If the heater then comes on, that is the hotter direction.

I figured out how to control the temp. Apparently it's the opposite of every thermostat and you turn it clockwise to turn it down. But turning it a micro inch has a 10 degree swing.

So after talking to the manufacturer of the tank, they recommend replacing the thermostat. They said i can use a Standard Aquastat.

Looking at what type is there now. Can anyone recommend a current Aquastat that I can replace it with?
For some reason all the Honeywells that look like this one on Amazon have a range from 100-240 degrees F.
And that isn't right. Guessing the typical range is 80-140F..

Thanks,
Jay
