A.O. Smith ProMax Power Vent Gas Water Heater Anode Rod Check and Replacement

Hi, I have a 2008 A.O. Smith gas water heater, model : GDP 40 100, S/N: 0852A003054. I want to check and replace the anode rod.

After removing all the screws for the blower assembly, I could get the blower, control box and outlet vent pipe off , but the vent hood assembly was sttuck on the water tank top.

What can I do to reach the anode rod? Should I cut off the connection between vent hood assembly and intake air pipe?

Thanks in advace.

John

Can you tell how the vent hood is stuck on, for example are there little metal tabs that are bent over that you can straigten out and then the vent hood will lift off?

Got a picture of the vent hood assembly on the top of the water heater?
