State Select GS650YBRT will not stay lite

This State Select GS650YBRT hot water heater is 7 years. it started having to be relite from time to time. Than it was every day. Pulled burner assembly and cleaned the thermocouple with sand papers. It worked about 3 days. Than it started shuting off main burn and pilot in only few minutes and pilot wouldn't light without waiting about 10 minutes. So I lite the pilot and didn't turn main burner on for 24 hours. Pilot stayed lite for the full 24 hours and main burn lite right up. Heated water and shut down again main burner and pilot. Order and changed out the Gas Control 182791-004 which turns out to be and old A.O. Smith part number. Lite unit and it worked great for 8 days. Relite again worked for about 3 days, than it would work as long as took heat the one tank of water. So I orders a complete burner assemble with new pilot and change it out. It lite right up heated maybe a couple tanks of water and pilot went out with main burner. In short every thing is last than a week old and heater is doing same thing it was doing with old equipment. It was new main burner assemble which comes with pilot assemble and new thermocouple gasket and new door. No gas leak, no water leaks. One other thing when I go to put the shield back on if it bumps a little you hear click in the gas control and both pilot and main burn go out. What I'm I missing here?

My thought is that all along you had a bad gas valve. I wouldn't put the cost of a new gas valve into a 7 year old water heater, I'd replace it.

Lawrosa will be along and comment, he's the resident AO Smith expert. BTW, State water heaters are made by AO Smith.
