Installing Heater to code

To meet code should following be done

Replace old style wrench turn gas valve with new 1/4 turn hand turn valve on supply?
Rigid or flex gas pipe to heater on supply. Which is preferred?
When must a b-vent exhaust be used on 40k btu heater with 120k btu 80% furnace with inducer? Chimney in basement , to garage, 1/3 expose outside both heater and furnace vent to chimney.

Although not dictated in the code....as far as I know.... a new 1/4 turn gas valve is a good improvement.

I prefer rigid connections to permanent items like water heaters and furnaces although the code does allow flex.

Since your chimney goes all the way to the basement you should not need b type vent pipe.
