Wiring a new electric water heater.

I just installed a new electric 50 gal whirlpool water heater. I'm unsure about the wiring. The wires going to it are black, white with a green ground. The wires in the water heater are red and black. How do I connect them? This is what I think...ground to the ground screw, black to black and white to red?

Did you change the size of water heater? What gauge wires do you have?

The instructions that came with the heater should tell you how to wire it. But yes, green to the ground screw, black to blac and white to red.

Thanks for the quick response. No we didn't change the size and the wire is #10. I guess I just wanted a second opinion before I felt comfortable with doing it. Thanks again.

Using plastic tape, permanent marker or even heat-shrink tubing, re-mark the white wire to red. Do this at both ends of the cable.
