Electric water heater breaker trips after very long showers or filling a bathtub
My hot water heater breaker has tripped twice. Once after a very long shower and another after filling up a bathtub. Is it normal for a breaker to flip after long usage or is it still an indication of a problem?
It hasn't happened any other time. The water heater is 3 years old.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
It is not normal for that breaker to trip regardless of the hot water status.
What size breaker is it ? It's usually a 2P30A breaker.
The current requirement for the water heater is on an ID plate.
It may give you the wattage which is usually 4500 watts.

Thanks for responding.
My breaker says 10 kA and 120/240v-, where would I find what you suggested?
The water heater does say 4500 watts.
If it's happening during those times of long shower or filling a tub which is basically the same thing, what might be the culprit?
Is it better to call an electrician or plumber to repair?
Thanks!

Your heater will draw 18.75 amps while running. Normally water heaters are fed with #10 wire and a 30 amp circuit. The breaker rating is normally listed on the handle.
