Plastic water heaters

Hi there,

Just saw them talking about plastic water heaters on “this old house”.

What does everyone think? Lifetime warranty on the tank but not the components such as heating elements or controls.

Rheem has been making this type for many years -- "Rheem Marathon". It's my impression that they have been successful in service. Basically, the heating elements screw into the tank just like into a metal tank and can be replaced when needed. Likewise the thermal sensor. The control unit is simplistic, and it too is a readily replaced item. No need for sacrificial anode rods to protect the plastic.
