water heater circuit breaker keeps tripping

What would cause the circuit breaker on my electric water heater to keep tripping? What is the cure?

Welcome to the forums.

Could be from several reasons.....
one reason could be a shorted element and another could be a weak/defective breaker.

Does it run for a while and then shut off?
Is this something you are intending to fix yourself ?
The easiest place to start is by checking the heating elements with a ohmmeter for shorts.

The heating elements are brand new as is the breaker. Yes it will work for a day or two and then go out. The breaker that goes out is the one on the heater, the the one in the home electrical system. Thank you.

There is a breaker right on the water heater ?
I'm guessing that's a small 120v model. Can you post the model number ?

You mean model number ? Couldn't find what you posted in the Reliance line.

Reliance list.... Reliance Water Heater Literature Specification Sheets
Closest I could find.... Reliance water heaters/Electric/Elec_UEF_650EOLS.pdf
If it's the one I posted..... it should be on a 2P30A circuit breaker.
